In the book of Revelation angels show up all over the place. Angels show up in the rest of the Bible too. They protect, they deliver God’s mail, and they are on mission with and for Jesus. I’ve had my own angel sighting. At least I think I have.
Angels in Disguise
I had just finished walking 103 miles across England with a handful of other people. We were in London getting gas before heading to a play. I went inside the gas station to use the loo (Brit for restroom). When I was done, I turned the loo doorknob to leave, but the door wouldn’t open. I was locked in. I called to the clerk – I could see him through the keyhole – shouting out my dilemma. “I’m busy,” he shouted back. I kept asking for his help, to no avail. I started to wonder about the clerk’s motives, and I was sure my traveling companions were getting impatient.
Finally I prayed, asking the Lord for help. Suddenly two guys came to the key hole, peered in, and told me they could help. They were not your standard good Samaritans. They were muscled-up guys with black leather jackets and shaved heads. Tough guys. But oddly, they weren’t scary. They seemed nice.
One of them asked me if the bathroom had a window. I told him it did. He went outside, broke open the window lock without damaging it, dropped into the bathroom, and picked the door lock from the inside. Then he opened the door! At last I was free!
The next thing I knew the two guys were gone. I didn’t see any motorcycles or hear any quick getaway noise. Did I just have an angel sighting? Who knows. I do know the Lord sent them.
I don’t know where people get the idea that angels are these fluffy, cotton-candy beings who strum harps and sing sweet songs with a hollow look in their eyes. I’m thinking God’s angels are more like Navy SEALs or Delta Force units. Seriously cool dudes, muscled up to handle anything. Big things, but also everyday things, like setting a captive girl free.
Emery has an angel sighting in The Revelation of Emery Audubon. Sign up for my Newsletter at www.annroecker.com to be among the first to read about it once the book is available in 2025.
