Story Behind The Revelation of Emery Audubon

Home / Uncategorized / Story Behind The Revelation of Emery Audubon

Many novels have surprise endings. The Revelation of Emery Audubon has a surprise beginning. Although I’ve been a writer for many years and love stories, I had no intention of writing Christian YA fiction rooted in Revelation. Like most Christians, I’ve read the last book in the Bible and have heard plenty of sermons on it. Still, Revelation remained a mystery to me, and not that relevant to my here and now. That is until Emery Audubon came along.

How it got started

During COVID-19 I reread the book of Revelation — this time out loud — and finally began to understand it — to see that it’s actually packed with good news and instruction, on top of the heads-up on history it provides. I also started a journal since the Lord had things to say to me almost every day in 2020. It turns out the Lord was fertilizing my heart for a story for you. If you’re a Christian young adult, no doubt you feel the heat turning up on history. Things are getting tougher … and weirder. I’m just saying.

The surprise beginning came on May 24, 2021 — the day after Pentecost. I woke up early and there she was, Emery Audubon, dressed up and ready to talk. For the next 18 months Emery’s story poured out as a “Christian YA apologetics fiction” (a trending genre that illuminates or defends God’s Word as part of the story). I think you’ll relate to Emery’s contentment with how things are, and to her alarm when she finally sees that evil isn’t just out there, it’s entrenched, nearby, and out to ruin her life. But what should she do about it?

Enough for now. I hope you enjoy getting to know Emery as much as I have. If you’ve read my other posts, you know that The Revelation of Emery Audubon is coming out in late spring 2025. What a clever way to take a fresh look at the book of Revelation and at the same time address challenges our young people face today. For all seekers of truth, young or old, this book sounds like it will have something for all of us.

I’m excitedly anxious to read this book…even though I’m far from being a YA;). I’m “young enough” to learn!
